The Fascinating Fresh Water Fishing: The fundamentals You Need To Know

Have you had the chance to fish in freshwater? Although some find it to be a distant relation to other types of fishing, it’s still one of the best ways to spend your time. There are hundreds of lakes around that you could be taking pleasure in virtually any moment that you would like to. To find out more about it, check out your options here.

Freshwater fishing is done in lakes, rivers as well as streams which have minute quantities of dissolved salts. Fresh water sources are precipitation or melting ice as well as snow. There are numerous fresh water fish species, but some of the most important ones are bass, catfish, pickerel, pike sunfish, trout, salmon, muskellunge, sturgeon and also walleye.

Gear for Freshwater Fishing

What you will need for basic freshwater fishing gear includes a fishing rod and also fishing reel, fishing line between 4 and 10 pound-test, various fishing weights, various hooks (sizes 6 to 10), floats, bait and also in most destinations, a fishing permit or license. There are a variety of both live and also man-made baits that actually work nicely for freshwater fishing.

Bait You will need

Live bait can be useful for fresh water fishing. Freshwater fish feast on a variety of prey, including earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, chub, shad, crayfish and small fish species like smelt. Freshwater fishing bait for example earthworms, crayfish, frogs, minnows, chubs as well as shads could be captured in its normal habitat. Look around piers as well as in shallow water. Fresh water bait can also be bought from your local bait and tackle shop.

Synthetic bait is manmade bait which draws in fish to bite or strike. It consists of plastic worms, insects, flies, small jigs, lures, spoons, streamers, flies, spinners and more. Synthetic bait can be bought at fishing tackle and bait stores as well as online. Some anglers would rather get the materials for these kinds of baits and make their very own.

You will find a multitude of ready baits that you could use for freshwater fishing. Included in this are kernel corn, bread balls, cheese balls, egg bags, liver, cereal balls, chicken entrails. Here’s just a short listing of some freshwater fish and also the bait that attracts them.

Catfish: earthworms, liver, chicken entrails, hotdogs, frogs, tadpoles, crayfish as well as the majority of lures. At times you can even capture them on shiny hooks that have no bait.

Pike: earthworms, frogs, minnows, shad, all types of small fish species, crayfish, chub, spinners, spoons and egg sacs.

Bass: earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, crayfish, spoons, Mepps, spinners, artificial worms, jigs, streamers and also spinners.

Salmon: flies, spinners, spoons, egg sacs, shrimp and also large plugs.

Sunfish: earthworms, bread balls, kernel corn, insects as well as insect larvae, as well as small, shiny lures.

Pickerel: earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, crayfish, spoons and Mepps, spinners, artificial worms, jigs, spinners as well as streamers.

Walleye: shad, frogs, real or artificial minnows, worms, maggots, spinners, spoons, jigs, plugs and also small fish species.

Trout: earthworms, flies, insects, insect larvae, kernel corn, egg sacs, crayfish and also minnows.

Muskellunge: small fish species, frogs, Mepps, spinners, jigs, minnows, plastic trailers and also rapalas.

Sturgeon: frogs, fresh water clams, lamprey, eels, smelt, salmon eggs, shad, shrimp, egg sacs, yarn flies, brilliantly colored and also silver lures.

Go ahead and give it a try. If you’d like to explore this kind of fishing, you need to speak with somebody that is a professional that can show you just the thing you need to do, where to go and what to utilize to be successful at freshwater fishing.

Costa Rica: Happiest Place On The Planet?

Where is the “happiest place on earth ?” Disneyworld claims it is and, though it is a great place to enjoy once in a while, the most satisfying place to live on the planet is officially tiny Costa Rica, winner of the Happy Planet Index.

The Index measures three factors in 143 countries, encompassing 99 percent of the population on the planet: high life expectancy, high life satisfaction, and a low ecological footprint. Costa Rica came out on top by a large margin.

The Happy Planet Index asked three questions: 1. What is a person’s life expectancy ( premise: it is better to live longer than die young)? 2. While alive, how satisfied are people with the quality of their life (premise: living longer but miserably is not very satisfying)? 3. How much does a country cost the planet (premise: sustainable development is better than exhausting resources and has less effect on global warming) ?

Like me, you probably assume that the richest nations will come in towards the top but that is not the case. Despite its wealth and power, the United States occupies number 114. England does better but still only ranks 74th.

There is a very dramatic difference between Costa Rica and the United States. Costa Ricans live slightly longer than Americans (and have universal, almost free coverage), report substantially higher levels of satisfaction with their life, and yet make a per capita carbon footprint 75% less than the States.

Costa Rica reached the top of the rankings for many reasons. The country does not just talk about sustainable development, it is committed to it. While the developed world and rising powers of China and India rely upon nonrenewable resources (think oil) for power while contributing to serious global pollution and global warming, an incredible 99% of Costa Rica’s energy is completely renewable and sustainable. As the States and other developed countries dither about how to address power needs, chase more and more resources to use up, and argue about the challenges of global warming, tiny Costa Rica has been taking action. Even as more and more of the world is being deforested, there are 20% more forested areas in Costa Rica than just 20 years ago. And, though there may be large oil deposits off its shores, the country has ignored its Siren Song and refuses to allow oil drilling. Also, it is the first, and so far the only, country to commit to being completely carbon neutral by 2021.

Costa Rica’s per capita income is only about $11,000, but it is the #1 place in the world for life satisfaction. Other countries can endlessly debate all the ways things cannot be done or rethink their model.

Vacationing In Jaco Costa Rica

Some of the most popular beaches in Costa Rica are close to the small yet bustling town of Jaco. Two hours away from San Jose, and easily reached by car or comfortable, cheap, ubiquitous buses, Jaco is located on Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast in the northern part of Puntarenas province. This is a party town.

About a two hour drive from San Jose, this bustling town sits on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. For many years, it has been one the most popular beaches in Costa Rica, in large part because of its nightlife. Its reputation as a fantastic “party beach” is now well known.

It wasn’t too many years ago that Jaco was a sleepy little Pacific beach community. Surfers discovered one great surfing beach after another nearby, a laid-back lifestyle, and cheap places to sleep. But, secrets are hard to keep and as word got out, more tourists started flocking to Jaco, looking for great relaxation, peace, and fun. Within the last half dozen years, Jaco has boomed. Where, not long ago, there was a single, quiet (except at night) little road through town, now there are towering high rises, nearby resorts, and lots and lots of restaurants and bars.

The costs of vacationing in Jaco match any budget. Today, you’ll find accommodations catering to the most well-heeled all the way down to those economy budgets (think hostels with cold water—but cheap)! And, of course, there is no lack of choice for eating, partying, or sleeping. You’ll also find those ubiquitous tourist traps where you can shop for that special gift for your (jealous) friends and family who couldn’t make the trip.

Though Jaco Beach (directly in front of Jaco) has been one of the most popular beaches for many, many years, nearby beaches (literally just a couple of miles/kilometers away), are much better. You’ll find far fewer people and some of the most ecologically pure water on the planet which have been awarded Blue Flag certifications for cleanliness. If you visit Jaco, I strongly recommend spectacular Hermosa Beach. It is only a couple of miles from Jaco. Though it is not recommended for swimming (due to its currents) it is pristine with some of the best surfing on the planet. Indeed, this July it will host professional surfers from more than 35 countries who are going to take part in world surfing championships (and party at night in Jaco).

There are innumerable things to do during your vacation. Go horseback riding along a lovely beach or visit the nearby river with its huge, famous crocodiles. Zipline through the canopy or try sea kayaking or sailing. Visit Arenal Volcano and sit in the hot springs watching the eruptions. Take a real Swiss train to a real Swiss hotel in the mountains of Costa Rica! Learn to surf or take a Spanish class (some language schools offer surfing as well!). Zipline high in the forests or take a balloon ride over the jungles. There are dozens of different activities close-at-hand where youll have fun or find a romantic place.

And, if you like to fish (or want a new experience), take a day charter from Jaco. The waters are often teeming with wonderful fish, from 400 pound marlin to sailfish, schools of tuna, and dozens of other species. Costa Rica offers some of the worlds great off-shore fishing and remember: the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of working.

Though it is easy to reach by air, Costa Rica remains to be discovered. Columbus was the first to find it and, indeed, gave it its name “Rich Coast.” It remains a spectacular haven with one-fifth of every species of plant and animal on the planet residing together in a tiny little country. So, don’t limit yourself to the beaches of Jaco. There’s lots more waiting.

Carp Fishing Gear

Carp fishing is quickly becoming one of the most popular forms of freshwater fishing throughout America and across the pond in Europe. While there might not be a whole lot of difference in the description of carp fishing over any other kind, the real difference is in the gear. If you are serious about carp fishing, you ought to be serious in learning and obtaining good carp fishing gear.

When you think about carp fishing gear, you should be thinking a few things specifically. These being: the rods, bait, and line.

Getting a rod to specifically go carp fishing is a possibility for the serious carp angler. The difference in these rod and reels over the competition of other fishing types is generally the length of the rod. Carp rods get to be about 12′ long and with very good reason. If you are pulling in a 45 lb. Monster carp, you don’t want to lose your rod to the tension and pull of the fish. A longer rod simply gives you more leverage. They start around $25 for a low-end rod, but the best rods will run you around $150. The difference is the makeup of materials, which greatly affects the rods endurance and overall durability in clutch situations.

If you want to land some serious carp, you have to approach them with the right bait. Some might tell you that any bait will do when you are trying to catch carp, but the pros have a very different outlook. You see, through testimonials on their respective websites from anglers who use their products, two companies have been making quite a name for themselves in terms of carp bait. K-1 and Kryston have both made broad claims to have some irresistible bait that carp cannot refuse. Judging by the satisfied reviews of anglers, I’d be inclined to agree with them.

Many people might be surprised to know just how large carp can actually get to. Some of the larger carp can max out at over 50 pounds. So if you are buying line that only supports the 10-20 pound average carp, you might find yourself disappointed with a broken line. Kryston makes line for all of your carp (or any fishing) needs. You have to think of it this way, getting the appropriate line to land a 50 lb. Fish can be the difference between mounting that fish and talking about how you would have mounted that fish.

You will never be able to compensate skill for advanced gear. While having these additions to your tackle box certainly won’t hurt when you are trying to land carp, nothing is more effective towards consistency like just getting out there and becoming the best angler around.

So if you are confident in your abilities and just want to get an edge, you should definitely check out some of this incredible carp fishing gear.

Read this article on common US carp so you’ll be ready to reel in the big ones when you go after those carp while fly fishing.
